Polycystic Kidney Disease Patient

Mr. Mu, male, 42 years old, from Tonghua City, Jilin Province. Patient has a family history of polycystic kidney disease and he began to know our hospital on internet. Before the treatment, larger cyst in his kidney is about 7.0cm, but after a period of treatment, the cyst became smaller, and then he brought medicine home for home treatment. Now his condition is really stable and he even introduced some of his relatives to our hospital for treatment a few days ago.

Severity of Polycystic Kidney Disease

I am so worried about your condition because the disease you are suffering from is polycystic kidney disease, but not renal cyst. If you only have simple renal cyst, I will not be so worried because renal cyst can be treated well in each country, but as for polysytic kidney disease, as far as we know, no treatment is offered to patients until the disease get to renal failure stage. The possible treatment for patients is medication for high bp, as well as dialysis or kidney transplant due to declined kidney function. There are also polycystic kidney disease patients in your family, and I believe that you know this clearly.
At this moment, you can live normally, work normally because your kidney function is still normal, but if no treatment is taken, the cysts will keep enlarging and causing kidney function decline serious. Will you like to have dialysis when most of your kidney function declines? If there is a choice, would like to have a try or you just give up and wait for dialysis.

Is Micro-Chinese Medicine Effective to Treat Polycystic Kidney Disease?

Micro-Chinese Medicine has attracted close attention from more and more Polycystic Kidney Disease patients home and abroad because nearly no treatment is offered to Polycystic Kidney Disease. Western medicine treatment consider that Polycystic Kidney Disease is a kind of genetic disease, so no treatment can be effective to this disease. Therefore, the only treatment for Polycystic Kidney Disease patients is some medication for high blood pressure, infection, etc. For kidney problem, no treatment or medicine.
It is true that Polycystic Kidney Disease is a kind of genetic disease and it is also the reality that it can not be cured completely. However, this does not mean Polycystic Kidney Disease patients can only choose to wait for dialysis or kidney transplant. Instead, they still have the right to choose a different life even though they are suffering from Polycystic Kidney Disease.
We all know that no obvious symptoms can be found in the early stage, which is because the cysts in kidney are still small and they will not cause so great damage to kidney. However, due to the gene factor and external stimulation, the cysts will grow bigger and bigger. As a result, the pressure caused by the cysts also increases at the same time. With the pressure on kidney tissue increasing, the damage in kidney is also progressing further gradually. Obviously, if no treatment is taken to stop the cysts enlargement, no matter what other kind of medicine or treatment the patients is taken, the kidney damage will always stay there and it is also progressing all the time. From there, it can be found that the main task for treating Polycystic Kidney Disease is to treat the cysts as well as the damage caused by these cysts. In another word, if the cysts enlargement is stopped and the disease is also in an early stage, the progression of Polycystic Kidney Disease can be stopped.
Why Micro-Chinese Medicine can get so much attention? The only reason is that Micro-Chinese Medicine has excellent effect on stopping the enlargement of cysts. What’s more, Micro-Chinese Medicine also has some function of protecting and repairing kidney. The main function of Micro-Chinese Medicine in shrinking cysts can be described as two aspects. The first one is to inhibit the activity of cyst wall epithelial cells which has the function of secreting cyst fluid and the second one is the increase the reabsorption of cysts fluid by activating blood circulation as well as improving cyst wall permeability. Finally, the cysts can be shrunk gradually. Once the cysts become smaller, the pressure on surrounding kidney tissue can also be reduced. Therefore, the further damage to kidneys can be stopped or at least slowed down.

How Does Chinese Medicine Treat Polycystic Kidney Disease?

In order to find a better treatment and live a better life, more and more Polycystic Kidney Disease patients have tried so many treatment methods, and among these treatment methods, they have paid more attention on Chinese Medicine due to its safety and excellent effect on shrinking cysts.
We all know that the main reason of polycystic kidney disease progressing further is cysts enlargement which is resulting from the continuous secreting function of cyst fluid from cyst wall epithelial cells turned from renal tubular epithelial cells. Some Chinese herbs are effective in inhibiting the activity of cyst wall epithelial cells, thus the secreting function can be controlled and then further cysts enlargement can be stopped. Besides, Chinese Medicine has excellent function in activating blood circulation and dilating blood vessel, which can increase the permeability of cyst wall and improve the micro-blood circulation on cyst wall, thus more cyst fluid can be reabsorbed. Finally, the cysts can become smaller after these two aspects. What’s more, some Chinese herbs can also repair and protect kidney so that present kidney function can be protected and part of kidney damage can also be reversed. If polycystic kidney disease is still in a relative early stage, Chinese Medicine will be a good choice for polycystic kidney disease patients.

Traditional Treatment Method for Polycystic Kidney Disease

To be honest, there are not many effective treatments for Polycystic Kidney Disease traditionally and the most common treatment method is medication for blood pressure or infection, or even some surgery to remove the cysts. Most of Polycystic Kidney Disease patients have used such methods to treat their polycystic kidney disease.
Normally, high blood pressure is considered as the first symptom of polycystic kidney disease, resulting from cysts enlargement. High blood pressure can also worsen kidney condition aggravation and kidney function decline, so effective medicines on high blood pressure is necessary for polycystic kidney disease patients. Traditionally, ACEI or CCB medicine is always suggested by doctors.
However, only medication for related symptoms can not stop the enlargement of cysts. Instead, under the action of gene problem, cysts keep enlarging continuously. When cysts enlarge to a certain degree, they will be full of whole abdomen, also affecting other organs. Under such condition, only medication is not enough. Therefore, surgery or operation will be suggested by doctors with the purpose of making cysts smaller. Cyst Decortication or Tapping and Hardening is commonly suggested to polycystic kidney disease patients to deal with the cysts.
The above treatment is always taken when the disease is still in a relative early stage. With the cysts enlarge continuously, kidney function also declines at the same time and finally it will get into end stage or renal failure stage. During this period, dialysis is needed to maintain a normal life for polycystic kidney disease patients, and when both kidneys are damaged totally, kidney transplant is necessary for polycystic kidney disease patients. Dialysis is used to take the place of kidneys so that toxin or metabolic waste can be discharged out of body even though kidneys can not work normally. In this way, patients can feel little better after each time of dialysis.

Is Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Serious?

Is Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) serious? When talking about this question, the answers can be got is yes or no. We say ‘yes’ because Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) can not be cured completely due to its gene problem, and we say ‘no’ because Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) can be controlled and treated effectively through effective treatment.
Traditionally, no treatment or medicine is offered to treat the disease except medication for high blood pressure or infection, etc. Therefore, the cysts keep enlarging all the time, and as a result, the disease is progressing all the time and kidney function also keeps declining. Finally, Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) will get into end stage and patients have to accept dialysis or kidney transplant in this period. This is the main reason why people always think this disease is too serious.
However, if the cysts enlargement can be stopped or controlled, the disease may not get into end stage and patients also do not need dialysis or kidney transplant in their life. We all know that cysts enlargement is the main reason that causes kidney damage and kidney function decline for Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) patients, so the key of the treatment should also be started with the cysts. When cysts enlargement is stopped, the pressure they produce to surrounding kidney tissue also does not increase, so the further progression of kidney damage can be stopped. What’s more, if cysts can become smaller, the pressure on surrounding kidney tissue will also be reduced, and then the condition of renal ischemia and anoxia can be relived, thus improving kidney condition to a certain degree.
From the above it is easy to find that Polycystic Kidney Disease is not so terrible is proper treatment on cysts can be found, and what is necessary for Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) patients is trying to find a treatment that can solve the problem of cysts or at least the treatment can be helpful to stop the cysts enlargement.

What Symptoms Will Polycystic Kidney Disease Patients Have?

Normally, Polycystic Kidney Disease patients feel no obvious symptoms at the early stage of Polycystic Kidney Disease when the cysts are still very small. However, due to gene factor, cysts are enlarging all the time and as a result, related symptoms will appear gradually.
High Blood Pressure is the first symptom that happens. With cysts enlarging, they will compress surrounding kidney tissue as well as surrounding blood vessel, causing local renal ischemia which can induce more rennin secretion. As a result, the concentration of angiotensin increases. At the same time, blood vessels become narrower, and then blood pressure increases. What’s worse, high blood pressure will also speed up the progress of kidney function decline.
Pain on unilateral or bilateral kidney region is also commonly felt by polycystic kidney disease patients. Cysts enlargement can cause power to pull surrounding kidney tissue and renal vascular pedicle, which can make patients feel painful. Besides, if polycystic kidney disease is complicated with infection, obstruction or stones, painful feeling will be more serious.
Haematuria is another common symptom of polycystic kidney disease. When cysts enlarge to a certain degree, cyst rupture is easy to happen and then haematuria occurs. Besides, polycystic kidney disease patients always have lower immunity than healthy people, so they are also easier to get infection on cysts or urinary tract, which is also a main reason of haematuria.
Polycystic pathological change on other internal organs is also usually found, such as cysts in liver, pancreas, spleen, and so on. Presently, no exact reason is found to explain this symptom. However, with polycystic kidney disease being treated effectively, cysts in other organs will also be relieved.

What is Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD)?

Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is a kind of genetic kidney disease and it can be divided into two kinds, Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) and Autosomal Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease (ARPKD). Normally, Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) is more common and Autosomal Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease (ARPKD) which is caused by gene mutation is rarely seen. This article also mainly puts attention on Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD)
ADPKD follows the rule of dominant inheritance, which means if one of parents has this disease, each of their children will also get the disease at the rate of 50%, and this rate will increase to 75% if both parents have this disease.
Due to gene problem, renal tubular epithelial cells turn to cyst wall epithelial cells after Phenotype change, and then cyst wall epithelial cells begin to have the function of secreting cyst fluid. As a result, various sized cysts will form and keep enlarging continuously. With cysts enlarging, they will produce more pressure on surrounding kidney tissue, which can affect the micro-blood circulation in kidneys firstly. What’s more, the kidney function of adjusting blood pressure will also be affected. Due to these two aspects, high blood pressure always happens as the first symptom of polycystic kidney disease, and when high blood pressure happen, we say polycystic kidney disease attacks.
With the disease progress further, the pressure on surrounding kidney tissue becomes too large, and the damage on surrounding kidney is inevitable. If no method is taken, the damage will progress further because cysts are enlarging further. Finally, the disease will get into end stage which is renal failure or even end stage renal failure. At this moment, dialysis or kidney transplant will be offered by their doctors.
